Three 2018 Hiring and Recruiting Trends
You’ve heard the saying, “The days are long, but the years are short” and we could not agree more. As we say farewell to 2017, now is the perfect time to see what some of the trends in hiring and recruiting are as we dive right into 2018.
The Growing of the Gig Employees:
The technology we use every day has made it easier for people to promote and build a brand for themselves, which has led to a rise in the number of gig workers, freelancers and contract workers. As we roll into 2018, we don’t anticipate these types of employees to slow down. With the anticipation that 40 percent of the workforce will be working outside of the traditional nine-to-five positions by 2020, 2018 is the perfect time to start embracing this trend.
Remote Working, Again:
Remote work has been trending for several years and it’s no surprise that it’s made the list again. As employees look for autonomy and the technology allows for it, more companies are recruiting worldwide and hiring talent to work remotely. In 2016, 43 percent of Americans had spent time working remotely. We’ve seen consistent growth in employees working remotely and since it’s considered a perk too many employees, we don’t anticipate it slowing down.
Elimination of Biased Hiring:
Bias and discrimination are not a new thing when it comes to hiring, so as we move into 2018 many companies are looking to make a transition to include more diversity in their workforce and eliminate biased hiring. Consider starting a blind hiring process, meaning information like gender, age, education and race are left out of the screening process. While developing biases may be unconscious, implementing a blind screening process can help you base decisions on abilities and past experiences.
We look forward to the trends and changes 2018 will bring for the human resources industry! What are some outlooks for the industry have you heard about? Share them with us in the comments below.
