Why Candidates Aren't Applying for Your Jobs

Job openings are a two-way street. You need a great pool of candidates just as much as the candidates need the perfect fit in a great company like yours.  So why are you making it so difficult for these candidates to find your ad, become interested in the position and apply?  This is becoming a huge problem for companies in 2016, and the team at Skywalk Group is here to help by answering the two most common questions relating to this topic:

Why isn’t anyone answering my help wanted ad?

  1. Company logo and benefits are not mentioned – company branding will enhance the look of your ad and benefits information will add value to the position.

  2. Job title is too long – Keep your job title clear and simple for the search engines.  This will help job seekers find your ad in an online search.

  3. Salary or pay information is not mentioned – Adding a salary or range has been proven to increase an ad’s response rate.

  4. Overall ad is too short – For higher quality candidates, you must provide as much information as possible about your company and all that the job entails.

Why isn’t anyone applying on my careers page?

  1. Application is too long – it is common knowledge that the shorter the online form, the more likely someone is to fill it out.  The same rule applies to your online career application.

  2. No contact information displayed – do you want an applicant that takes the initiative to contact you directly?  Most do.  If that is the case, make it easy for them to call or email you!

  3. Asking for a CV – some potential candidates may not even be looking for a job, but found your job description appealing.  Those individuals most likely do not have a current CV, but could still be excellent candidates.  Capture these candidates by requiring less initially.

  4. Poor job description – the same rules from your help wanted ad apply to the job openings you list on your website.  If you don’t provide enough details such as salary, it has been proven that you will receive about 30 percent less applications than you would have with a more detailed description.

  5. Not mobile-friendly – this is 2016.  By now, up to 90 percent of your potential candidates are searching for jobs on their mobile device.  If your job openings cannot be accessed and read easily using a smartphone or tablet, you will miss out on a large portion of the talent pool out there.

If you don’t have the time or budget to pursue excellent talent for your current job openings, call the Skywalk Group.  We provide services that will make hiring the right people simple, quick and effective.  The Skywalk Group also provides assistance in the areas of human resources and employee training.
